Hey Anne! Thank you so much for being willing to share with us about your January Whole30. We want to know: was this your first Whole30?
Yes, this was my very first Whole30
Wow! We are so excited that we were able to be a part of it. What got you interested in trying Whole30?
I really liked the idea of a reset. I’ve experimented with eliminating food groups to see if I could get to the bottom of some digestive and autoimmune issues but honestly, I was always afraid I couldn’t eliminate wine and cream in my coffee.
Looking back, what would you say was your biggest hurdle during January Whole30?
Definitely giving up social drinking.
It definitely can be hard to navigate social occasions on Whole30 but, on the flip side, what would you say was your biggest victory, on or off the scale?
Three big victories for me:
- Improved sleep. After the first couple of days on Whole30 I noticed my sleep was deeper and more restful. I actually started looking forward to going to bed so I could get more delicious sleep.
- Decreased anxiety. I never thought I had anxiety. But I realized that panicky-I’ll-never-get-everything-done feeling I was waking up with everyday was free floating anxiety. I think it was partially food related because that’s gone now, I wake up feeling ready.
- Okay, here’s the big one: I’ve always been pretty lean but over the last 10 years my metabolism has changed. If you’re a woman over 50 you know what I’m talking about. The pounds slowly crept on and would not leave no matter how much I exercised or changed my eating habits. With Whole30 I lost 13 pounds! Only 6 lbs to go.
Those are all incredible Whole30 benefits! Do you have any advice to share with others about how to be successful during Whole30?
Tell other people want you’re doing so you have accountability and support. Make sure you have your food planned out at least a day ahead. That way, when hunger strikes, you already know what you’re going to eat.
We love that you mentioned support and accountability, as well as planning ahead, which can make or break a Whole30 round. What changed for you as a result of doing January Whole30?
My relationship with food. I’m looking at it as less of a reward (think pizza, wine, chocolate) and more as fuel for my body that can still taste good. I’m finding other ways to reward myself.
How do you feel now that you’ve made it through your first Whole30?
I feel victorious. Is that cheesy? There’s a lot of power in doing what you say you’re going to do even when it’s hard.
We don't think that's cheesy at all! It's totally empowering to know you can rise to a challenge like Whole30. What meal was your favorite over the month?
I really liked the sweet potato pad thai.

Being that this was your first Whole30 EVER, share with us how Model Meals helped you during January Whole30.
I personally don’t think I would’ve tried Whole30 without the help of Model Meals. I work a full time job as a school speech therapist and I have an online business. I know I wouldn’t have taken the time to do al the meal prep. And if I did, I would probably make the same thing over and over and get bored. Find some staple items that you can count on. Find a couple of people who’ve done it before; they’ll cheer you on and help you navigate the tough part. Once you’ve made it through the first 9-10 days it gets SO much easier. Drink tons of water.
